  • Thanksgiving countdown…

Thankful… for my father-in-law who makes us yummy food.
Fun foods, too. Like fresh almond biscotti to go with my coffee. Mmm…

    And you?

  • Volume

I remember taking notes for a Deacon meeting a few years back and Deborah came in to ask Dr John something. She was probably… 4 (?) at that time. She didn’t barge in the room and scream “Daddy! Daddy!” like some big kid did last week. Instead she knew how to whisper. I remember being so impressed.

I went in for jury duty on Wednesday and we were waiting in the room waiting for the orientation to start. It was so quiet in there. A lady turned on her computer and the computer sang a tune. And she went, “Shhh. Shhhhh. Shhhhhhhh.” to her computer. That was funny.

Then we were all waiting in the hall to go into a courtroom. Maybe 60 some of us. Everyone was quiet, no one talking to anyone else. But there was a girl on her phone talking in normal volume, pacing up and down the hall. “Oh my gosh, like, yeah… Well, anywho…”. After a while she hung up the phone and sat down on the floor and said, “Booooorrrrrriiiinnnggggg. Boooooorrrrriiiiinnnnnnggg.” Yes, she said that out loud… to herself. And then she started to sing, “Du du du du du du du…”.

Jury duty was amusing. Too bad I didn’t get on a case though.

  • Between home and jury duty, there are two libraries. Two FRESH libraries which I have not stepped foot in. That means:

    NEW MUSIC!! Yeah!

I LOVE going to the library. I was telling Nancy the other day how my ideal birthday would entail making a trip to the library. Most libraries let you check out 5 CDs per visit, that’s 10 CDs for me today. The library is such a great resource for so many things. You can even request stuff on-line and they’ll send it to any library for pick up. If you don’t have a library card, go get one. Did I ever tell you I used to want to be a librarian? But when I found out how much schooling you need, I said, “forget it”.

Now it’s time for me to audition some music to reside in the precious real estate that is my iPod.

S got me one of those mp3 docking stereo things for my birthday. That thing is constantly on when I’m awake in our room. It has a remote control and it can get really loud. I love it so much.

  • mixed calendarsDoes this ever happen to you?
Where the calendar in your head is just WAY off?

This morning when I was getting ready for work, I thought of my friend, Janet. “Wow, I haven’t seen Janet since her wedding in September. And it’s already June!! Wow, that long? 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I haven’t seen her in 9 months??!!” [enter clarity] “Wait… it’s only November!”

Isn’t that wacky? I wonder where that comes from.
This is not a one time thing.
    Hey… maybe I’m a time traveler… ooooo…

  • sun bounce   There’s this boy that I like…
       Today is his birthday.
       Happy birthday to you!

When a loved one’s birthday comes around, I wish that there’d be something like a cheerful sun that would shine clean, bright goodness and happiness on them all day long!

    • So that everyone gives him (or interchange w/ “her”) the right of way on the road

    • Everything he eats tastes super good

    • Has a good hair day

    • Any work/school issues are suddenly resolved after some thinking

    • He finds something really funny and laugh really hard for a very long time

    • He gets to do something productive and feel good about himself

    • He gets to take the most rejuvenating and comfortable nap

    • He receives a/some thoughtful present(s)

    • Friends/family that he bumps into will freely express how special he is to them

Too bad I’m not a cheerful sun manufacturer.
But I wish you a very wonderful birthday from the inner/deepest/truest part of my heart!

  • Per a food critic friend who is also Thai:

The “sri” in Sriracha is pronounced “see” — not “shree”, not “sree”. The “r” is silent.

Say it with me now, see-ra-cha.

  • Sometimes I think I’m a genius.

mr smartypantsI get a cup of hot, strong coffee in the morning.
But for some reason I usually only drink half a cup.
The remaining half cup goes from lukewarm to room temperature. Yuck.
So, in the afternoon, I go to the fridge and put in crushed ice cubes.
    Then I get iced coffee!

Not only is it tasty but I get TWO coffee breaks! *thumbs up*

When I first did that I had such a proud whoa-I’m-smart moment. *ding*
But you might just think that’s rudimentary.

Well, that’s pretty much the extent of my genius.
    Simple pleasures for simple minds.
