Month: May 2006

  • One of my silkworm is dead. Well, I'm pretty sure it's dead. I'll leave her in there for a day more or so. Maybe she will decide to come back to life. It's very sad. It was the little one. Gone with her are her dreams to send her silk to Japan to make kimonos for an underprivileged girl. She was a kind worm.

But the other two big ones are very much alive, healthy, and getting bigger all the time. They love to eat and I love to watch them eat.

Getting a blood test today. That means no food till after it's over. I'm craving an apple or a bag of hot cheetos. Or a muffin. Or a piece of flan. I even had to turn Amy down. She was going to deliver me a cup of BOBA! You can't study for these kinds of tests. I hope the results will be good.

I'm looking forward to the long weekend. Sam has to work on Monday so maybe I'll catch up on some DVDs:

    Saving Face
    Confessions of Sociopathic Social Climber

    The Incredibles
    Woman Thou Art Loosed

    Have a great one!

  • silkwormsThose silkworms are breaking my heart. They are not eating. I felt so helpless yesterday. All they do is sleep. Like what sick people do.

Is this what new parents feel when their baby won't eat or when they get sick? You just don't know what to do. But of course this is on a much smaller scale.

The United Air commercial came on last night during American Idol, and the song playing was "here we go 'round the mulberry bush". And then I just felt terrible because I was reminded again of my silkworms. (Silkworms only eat mulberry leaves.)

I couldn't take it anymore; sitting around doing nothing. For some reason I had an impression that there was a mulberry tree in the golf course by my Parent's house, so I hopped in my car after the show ended. The place was dark, I just had to remember where the tree was. And lo and behold, I found it! And it was indeed a mulberry tree! I found my silkworms fresh food! *ecstatic*

I rushed back home, cleaned it and the little one (Kimono) started eating within minutes. But then it stopped. Well, at least it ate some. But the two bigger ones just kept sleeping! Wake up, fresh food here!

Thanks to Ray, now I know they aren't eating b/c they are ready to shed their skin. *phew* Silkworms molt 4 times, each time getting bigger and fatter! Then they'll spin themselves into a silk cocoon, later emerging as a moth to mate, lay eggs, then die.

(To the right is a picture of two random silkworms from online, not mine.)

  • Wow, I received a really nice compliment this morning.
So I'm putting it down here to refer to in the future when I have a bad attitude or feel like what I do is blah...

"Thanks, Judy. You're really good at your job. You make it so easy. I really appreciate you."

    Yay!

Besides that, what a crazy multi-tasking day today is! I keep forgetting what it is I was working on if I toggle away to a different screen. I have 24 windows open.

More tomorrow about the silkworms. They didn't eat much yesterday. I wonder if it's b/c the leaves are drying out. I'm so sad. So sad.

They're like my babies. The first thing I do when I wake up is to check on them to see if they've eaten and if they need more food. I think about them at work. The first thing I do when I go home is to check up on them. I make sure their living area is clean, their food is clean. I hope they grow to be big and strong.

Sam likes to imitate things; like funny poses on DVD covers, a beetle... and now, a sleeping silkworm. It's funny.

    Okay, time for lunch!

  • When I was growing up in Taiwan, my parents would give us an allowance every week. I think it was 5NT. These are the 3 things I'd save up for:

    1) Colored rubber bands
    2) Preserved plums and other snacks
    3) Silkworms

It's Spring, the season for silkworms. Thanks to Ray, I now have 3 baby silkworms. And thanks to Enffie, they have fresh mulberry leaves to feast and grow on.

I think silkworms can be a form of therapy. Watching them eat is so soothing. They eat away a little at a time. But before you know it, a whole section of the leaf is gone. It reminds me of patience and persistence.

My Father-In-Law told me that there are people who save up their poop and drop it in hot water to make tea. Uh, no thanks.

    I've given them names:

    1) Cheeto. Lily thinks they look like white cheetos.
    2) Boxer, as in silk boxers.
    3) Kimono, as in silk kimonos. She aspires for her silk to go overseas.

But alas, they will probably just go in the trash can afterwards.
