Month: June 2006

  • Hot evenings like this reminds me of summer last year. Running away from people, from thoughts, from the heat. A quick drive over to the local Starbucks to plant myself there with a book for a couple hours. Get lost in a corner, in a story, in the smell of the place. Coffee frappuccino was the comfort drink. And the A/C was free. $3, it was worth it.

Until I was chilled inside and out, then I'd gather my stuff and head back home.

Not sure why I'm writing this... was just reminded of Starbucks and all that happened last summer by this horrific heat. Oy, triple digits in the Valley. Save me.

One summer, and then another, and then another. And so we move forward.

  • We flew back yesterday from Ohio, to see Allen graduate from his residency program. Can't believe he's already been there for 7 years... and who knows for how much longer. Maybe forever? We are all very proud of him. He's made quite a name for himself out there. Anyone would be lucky to have him be their family doctor or OB.

His new home is marvelous. It's spacious and bright. Settled in a village (that's what they call it) of just 500 some people, he drives about 15-20 minutes to the city for work. It's so green there, lots of lush fields and trees. Some fields seem to go on for miles, some contain silos, others have white fences with horses or goats. Beautiful countryside landscapes. The pace of life there is slow and peaceful. It suits him very well.

After attending his graduation party Saturday night, he stopped the car by the side of the road and we caught 10 fireflies! That's my kind of activity! If there ever is such a thing as a magical forest, I think we saw a glimpse of it that night. Hundreds of flickering lights all over the trees and the fields... amazing. I could have stood there and admired it for hours.

We watched so many movies there. I'm convinced I need something like Tivo now. I also bought grenadine and made myself many cups of Shirley Temple. Yummy.

  • Earrings...

I'm wearing a pair of earrings that Sam actually likes.
It's fast becoming one of my favorites for that very reason.
    I like getting his approval.
Or when his look says, "I think you're pretty".

Little did I know he doesn't like most of my dangly earrings.
    Boohoohoo.
Oh well, I still like them.
    Shiny.
    Dangly.
    Pearl studs.
    Purty...

Whoever thought of drilling holes in one's ear and hanging stuff from them?

I don't like heavy ones that drag down the ear holes.

I know someone whose earring got ripped off her ear.
Big looped earrings are bad when you're in a girl fight.
    Oo, painful.

  • Please, no one send me chain mails. Often times, there's a nice message. But if i see at the end, "send this to x number of people and your wish will come true in y days"... that just ruins it. Delete.

I remember getting a chain letter back in 4th grade. Back then, you didn't have access to a copy machine, and it wasn't electronic for easy forwarding. So you had to copy the entire letter by hand and hand it to the victims in person. I will admit that I did feel "cool" when I got my first one. But after copying that long letter 5 times, I didn't know who to give them to. Nobody wanted it and backed away like it was some plague.

Some might see it as an opportunity for a wish to come true. But it's just superstitious stuff to me now.

I ended up handing it to no one. But it did help with practicing how to write in cursive, hehe. And hey, I didn't have a year of bad luck... unless you count the time when my bratty neighbor/classmate (Jimmy Lee was his name) took my favorite stuffed animal and bit it in the face. One word: slobber. That was not nice.

P.S. Below is a great Bossa Nova album. I don't understand a word, but it's still good.

  • Our neighborhood high schoolers like to blast their music. Now that they are out of school, they are free to blast it before my work day is over.

Shakira: *I'm on tonight, you know my hips don't lie and I'm starting to feel it's right...*
Judy: *cringing* Oh... sorry about that music! My neighbor is blasting Shakira. Can you hear it?
Account Manager:  No. But don't worry, when I work from home, you'll hear barking dogs and noisy gardeners.

Thank God this Nextel phone cuts out a lot of background noise. Oy, so unprofessional. Thankfully they don't blast it for long. It's too hot outside so they've gone indoors again.

I have to work on Saturday. Work has been so crazy lately.  Gotta do what you've what gotta do.

    Ricky Martin is so cute.

Speaking of Ricky Martin, we're taking my Parents out to dinner tomorrow for Father's Day. When my dad was young, he was some what Ricky Martin-esque. Or Desi Arnaz-ish.

P.S. I did drive back Wednesday night to pick up the laptop. John Mayer is always good company.

  • Argghh! I'm so mad at myself!!

It's 9:40pm, I just got back from my work area, 30 miles away. I open my trunk to lift out my laptop rolling suitcase thing to realize my laptop is still sitting in the docking station at work. Judy, boo on you! Tomorrow is my work-from-home day. Should I waste $6+ on gas to pick up my laptop tonight? Or go into work tomorrow instead? Either way, goodbye $6+. If I don't go tonight, that means I'd have to pick out an outfit for tomorrow, iron it, get up early, get dressed, drive in traffic. But I like working in my PJs.

Sam is not home for consultation. I can't make up my mind.

Had a date with Katelyn to celebrate her belated birthday. Dinner and a movie. We watched "The Breakup", I liked it because I can relate. Found myself sitting through much of the movie with a knot in my throat.

Still can't make up my mind. I've got the computer battery, computer cable, and mouse... but what good does that do me? No good.

  • I had hot cheetos for breakast. Terrible! I didn't want to eat it, but it was just sitting there. It actually isn't even that good anymore. It's too sour and salty. But it was just sitting there...

I am an expert Sudoku player. Woohoo! I can't believe I solved the last puzzles. I am so hooked. I have strategies and everything. Solving sudoku puzzles go best with an iPod on shuffle mode.

Tonight is boba night as I watch "So You Think You Can Dance". How do people shake their butts up and down like that? It's like they have another joint in there or something? I want to learn. I'm sad the Asian guy that pops really well didn't make it to the next round. I love watching street dancing.

  • My dear friend, Ingrid's dad passed away this past Saturday. What a hard time this must be right now. I can't imagine losing either one of my parents. Aren't they supposed to stay strong forever, always run faster than you... guess we're all just humans.

He had just given his two weeks at work in preparation for his retirement. Then the next day, he's gone.

I remember Ingrid sharing with us how funny her dad was in teasing her about getting married. If I remember correctly, this is how it went:

Ingrid: *lying on sofa, cuddling with cat*
Ingrid: Cheetos (the cat) keeps me warm.
Ingrid's Dad: Do you know what else will keep you warm? A boy!

We had quite a good laugh over that one.

I didn't know Mr. Chen well. But did know he was a kind man who loved his family and loved his God.

If you know their family and would like to show your support:

  • Feeling so sensitive today.
    Feeling like throwing a tantrum.
But what good does that do?
I'm not a young child anymore. I should be using my brain and thinking logically instead of being flown like a kite by Emotions.

Silkworm update: My silkworms have spun themselves into their cocoons. I wonder what's going on in there. I need a National Geographic crew. Oh! Whenever we move in to our new church, we should plant a mulberry tree. And start a Silkworm Ministry! Not sure what that entails, but it'll be fun! I'm not nuts.
