Month: July 2006

  • I went to see my Rheumatologist today and he took an x-ray of my hands. They are becoming pretty nasty looking with the cysts. Gone are my aspirations of becoming a hand model. jk. But there's no erosion or some medical term I can't pronouce. So that's good. Anyway, I'm getting more meds. When he put the x-rays up, I just stared at it in amusement. Hey everybody, there's a skeleton in my body!!

Speaking of doctors, yesterday, I found myself sitting down to lunch being the odd man out. At the table were 5 doctors, a registered nurse, a pharmacist, then there was me, the corporate girl. I wonder what their IQ is added up together. I also wonder what their school loans were added up together. They are all so down to earth. At that moment I was hoping my brother could be there sitting with us sharing his doctor stories. Hi, Guh!

Anyway, I think we've got such warm and wonderful people at church, medical or not.

P.S. Can anyone teach me to yodel? That is on my list of things to learn.

High on a hill was a lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

  • My car is sick. When I brake, it makes a very disturbing grinding sound. And sometimes it makes short high pitched squeals... like the ones you hear while driving in traffic on someone else's car and you think, "Driver, you better get that checked!" It's getting worse so I need to take it in. I think this means $$.  But, safety first! I keep imagining what'd happen if my brakes gave out when I'm on the road. Do I have to run into a bush or scrape my car along the wall to get it to stop so that I don't end up damaging my car and someone else's? Imagine the sparks flying. Hm, very scary. It's still a very good car, probably about 9 years old. It's been through a lot and has come back from the dead once, after getting hit by a semi and being sandwiched.

I forgot to tell you, my surprise from Saturday was a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) game and wireless dance pad! It's been too hot these past few days so I haven't touched it. Maybe it will help me get in shape. Moving to music, that doesn't seem like exercise at all! Thanks, hon!

Need to figure out how to make exercise a lifestyle and not a chore to cross off a list. Need to start by doing something I enjoy, so this will be a start!

  • Due to this horrid heat, our beloved Chinchilla is now in Chinchilla heaven. We had given it to my Uncle a few months ago since Amy had deadly allergies to it... but we still consider it "Our Chinchy". He called this weekend to tell us that Chinchy probably died of heat exhaustion in their garage. They've buried it in their back yard. The poor thing. I wonder if it felt like a child trapped in a car on a hot summer day. I hope he just fell asleep.

It's so hot. We're breaking all sorts of heat records here in So Cal. This is the 20th straight day where temperatures have been over 100°. I left work yesterday at 6:30 pm and it was 101° outside and super humid! Ick. Well, at least we haven't been affected by the rolling blackout. Ann said that she experienced her own rolling blackout: she kept falling asleep. Hahaha! Yeah, this heat makes me so tired.

I live for the late nights. When the sun goes down and the pavement cools. When the breeze is pleasant and I can breathe again.

  • Sometimes my ears are wacky and hear funny things. Like today:

Jennifer: You should go home, drink some wine, and just relax.
Judy: Go home, drink some wine, and take a laxative?!

We all had a good laugh.

Oh no... the weather woman says there will be "dangerous heat" tomorrow. That's bad.
Also tomorrow... work in the morning, wash my embarrasingly dirty car, and Sam says he has a surprise for me! Weeee!

  • I had lunch at Katelyn's today. She lives just a few blocks from work. Last night she made some dishes from her new Vietnamese cook book and I was asked to be the guinea pig! Mm, it was really good! The fried fish dumplings were delicious!

This inspires me to cook. When we used to live together, we both felt the same way about cooking for other people: we didn't like to. But now she has surpassed that. Good for her! Me... I haven't tried hard enough. Poor Sam, I will cook him some nice meals one of these days. I always feared that my husband and children will be malnutritioned. But so far, we are alive, hear clearly (kind of), see straight, can touch our fingers to our nose, walk steady... and take excellent multivitamins every day.

  • I spilled about 20oz of water in my laptop bag last week. Good thing there are two compartments so luckily my computer stayed dry. However, my ladybug purse was soaked through and my pocket bible got partially water damaged. So sad. It's dried now, but the pages are wavy at the bottom.

Someone should invent something to fix water damaged papers. Don't you think that that would be a very nice invention? Or is there already something like that out there? If there is, let me know!

Speaking of bibles. A robber went into my dad's store and grabbed his bag a few months ago. He probably thought there was money in there... but no, they were textbooks from my Dad's seminary class as well as his bible. The sad thing was that it was a bible my Grandpa had given to him. That made my Dad sad. You can't replace that. Darn you, thief! You can't even read Chinese!

  • I'm wearing a skirt today that I've had for probably 15 or so years. It was actually a hand-me-down from my cousin Elsa. I don't have an older sister, but do have some older girl cousins. And I must say, I have some pretty trendy-dressing cousins. I can't believe I still fit into it. It probably went out of style for a few years, but it looks pretty good again.

Whenever my Aunt Lily would come visit us, she'd bring us stuff. She is a gifter. When we lived in Taiwan, she used to send us boxes of Fruit Loops. Of course back then, we didn't understand the concept of eating cereal with milk. We thought it was just a delicious dry snack. Also, when we came to America, she gave us some twizzlers and said we could eat it. I thought to myself, "Americans are weird, they eat candles?" Hehe. I took a bite, and it tasted waxy, too!

Anyway, she'd always bring a few articles of clothing for us. Most of them were hand-me-downs, but in good condition. She'd take out a bag from her suitcase, and when she opened it, it would smell like cherries and clean laundry mixed together. Sometimes she'd bring us food or snacks. One time she brought over meatballs that she cooked and froze in Ohio! She's the oldest of 6 kids, the rest all boys, I think that's why she's so motherly.

Yes, I'm at work still. And yes, I'm procrastinating again.
I feel like a major bottleneck this week at work... and here I am, thinking about fruit loops and twizzler?!
Judy, think "consolidation", "testing", "fixed funds", "vendor payments"... ugh, now I have a headache.
I'm just so tired and mentally drained. How long will this go on for?

I wonder what they're serving for dinner tonight.

  • It's almost 6:30 and I'm still at work.

I have to write up a huge/long/laborious email to send out to a Sales team... and I'm totally procrastinating. The email will make me think and my brain is about to experience a server crash.

I feel like I'm back in college or something. Finding anything else to do other than what you're supposed to do... like studying for an exam, doing your homework, or telling that boy, "the feeling is not mutual". All this does is delay my going home. Why do we do this?

I think I'll have chicken quesadilla for dinner. It's wonderful when there's fresh food at home. It'll be just me and the TV tonight.

Okay... here I go. *drag feet*

Edit: It's now past 7pm. I forgot they serve dinner here for free for those that are working over time due to the recent projects. No extra pay, just free dinners.  Today's menu: Thai food! Okay, I must stop this crazy procrastinaton. Gotta finish up and go home to watch "So You Think You Can Dance"! Turbo power: on!

  • 7-11Happy 79th Birthday 7-Eleven!

To celebrate, participating 7-Eleven stores across America will serve up 3 million free 7.11-ounce slurpee drinks in special “Happy Birthday!” cups to customers as long as the cups last.

I hope they saved some for me!

  • Today I had a huge double chocolate cookie, it was so good with my cup of coffee.
How wonderful that the taste buds can contribute to one's happiness. Too bad they no longer make the strawberry flavored boba at Tea Bar anymore. I used to say that "this is like a taste of heaven in my mouth". Oh, how I love to eat.

I'm so thankful that we have our 5 senses... how they allow us to experience life. Without any of our senses, we wouldn't be able to feel it, understand it, convey it to someone else..

    This past weekend:

Hear: Listened to my iPod while coloring My Little Pony pictures. I love my little jukebox.
Touch: Danielle's soft baby hair and her squirming in my arms.
Taste: Having Chinese breakfast is rare and special. We had beef with pickled veggies in a sao bing. Cold soy bean milk for Sam and cold chrysanthemum tea for me.
Smell: Palmolive hair conditioner from Hong Kong (yes, the dish detergent brand). Reminds me of our trip last November each time I use it.
Sight: Watched friends bongo-ing in the air to Donkey Konga's music all at the same time. What a sight.

What's one sense you used this past weekend?
