  • My car is sick. When I brake, it makes a very disturbing grinding sound. And sometimes it makes short high pitched squeals... like the ones you hear while driving in traffic on someone else's car and you think, "Driver, you better get that checked!" It's getting worse so I need to take it in. I think this means $$.  But, safety first! I keep imagining what'd happen if my brakes gave out when I'm on the road. Do I have to run into a bush or scrape my car along the wall to get it to stop so that I don't end up damaging my car and someone else's? Imagine the sparks flying. Hm, very scary. It's still a very good car, probably about 9 years old. It's been through a lot and has come back from the dead once, after getting hit by a semi and being sandwiched.

I forgot to tell you, my surprise from Saturday was a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) game and wireless dance pad! It's been too hot these past few days so I haven't touched it. Maybe it will help me get in shape. Moving to music, that doesn't seem like exercise at all! Thanks, hon!

Need to figure out how to make exercise a lifestyle and not a chore to cross off a list. Need to start by doing something I enjoy, so this will be a start!

  • doesn't your car have an emergency brake?

    DDR !

  • Sorry about the car.  Hopefully it's not serious.   DDR is what I want to get hubby!  I was trying to think of a surprise to buy him, and this is exactly the right thing.  He wanted one last year, but I never bought it.

  • DDR is a good game to give you some work out.

  • The noise is probably a built-in warning that your brake pads are getting thin. Have them checked and replaced if needed or the brake discs may be damaged soon. They're much more expensive to fix.

    Good luck!

  • yeah the noise isn't dangerous... but you should definitely get it checked... it shouldn't be too bad if it's just a brake pad replacement

  • Yup, sound like the brake pads - not an expensive fix.  But if you let it go, it will become expensive when they wear out completely.  Do it ASAHP.

  • its your brake pads and your brake roters in the front wheels, cause the thing is, if you change your brake pads only, you might get that grinding sound still, so better getting pads and must cut your roters too. if you dont know what roters are, its those disc you see when you look at closely, looks like discs. cutting your roters probably 15 to 20 dollars each.

  • get well soon car!!!

  • just to cut, to buy, very expensive its totally gone

  • sounds like the brake pads!  shouldn't be too bad to fix...

i love DDR!  i wish you lived closer...we could DDR together!!

  • Then you can play super mario brothers with the DDR pad!!

  • ddr - sweet!  i think it's a great way to be fit b/c you're too busy having fun!  i know for a fact that you have those moves down pat.

  • If your brakes fail, leap out of the driver's door onto the roof of the car next to you. I saw someone in a film do it, so it must be possible

  • I had similar sounds on the car I drive too... and all they had to do was a little cleaning on the brake pads and viola, no horrible nail-on-chalkboard screeching.

  • ddr!! i love that game!

  • just wandered over to ur site randomly. the grinding noise ur hearing is due to worn brake rotors while the squealing is the brake pads. the padding on the rotor is either worn down or completely gone. it's not too dangerous but u should get it checked out asap. rotors are fairly cheap, what ur gonna get charged an arm and a leg for is the labor. good luck!

  • i bet u dont even need exercise!!=) but that game is fun so jus enjoi it and pretty soon...u wont even notice all the pounds flyin away!!
