Goodbye: Old Tin Pencil Box
I don't remember when this was given to me exactly (1st grade maybe), but it reminds me of my childhood, back when I believed in... Santa Claus! Yes, everyone, I believed in Santa Claus. Back then, life was a breeze. The worst of worries was making sure I remember to get my parents to sign my homework so I don't get wacked by the teacher (in Taiwan, not US). Or that my silkworms won't die because I had pet them too hard. (Oops!)
Aren't these cats cute? They are hip Japanese biker cats! You can tell this pencil box is pretty old. It's no longer connected at the hinges and is rusted. I've come across this old tin pencil box so many times when I've cleaned my room over the years. And I've always put it aside to keep. But it's really time to de-clutter.
Well, that same Christmas, I also found a white erase board right next to my bed when i woke up. So fun! On it Santa Claus wrote something like:
Ting-Ting (my Chinese name),
Merry Christmas.
Share this with your brother and sister.
Santa Claus
Me: *completely baffled* How does he know my name?!
Dad: From your uniform, it's on the shirt hanging on the chair.
Me: Wow, he's so smart!
Such happy memories. Amy got a little green tricycle. I forgot what Santa gave Allen.
P.S. We did not have a chimney in Taiwan.

man, i wish i raised silkworms as a kid. i want to pet them (but not too hard).
haha i believe in santa for a while.. my parents even went thru the trouble of moving the heater that stood in front of the fireplace to show that santa came thru the chimney.. and then when i woke up, they told me that there were reindeer prints on the snow on the roof (when we lived in NY). Carol said that she saw them (she was in on it too..)
I find out the reality that he didnt' exist when I saw a bag of goodies in my dad's car one day.. then I saw same exact goodies in my stocking the next week.. =(
hehhe, i have the same chinese name as you. actually your chinese name is my chinese/taiwanese nickname.
I remember the silkworms. I also petted one to death when I was young
