Month: June 2007

  • light bulb treeI once read somewhere that if you want to be proud of yourself, then you should do things that will make you proud. I know that sounds so simple, but it just made so much sense to me at that time. Like a big light bulb that just went off in my head.

I have been having a beaming morning. *thumbs up* Must reward self later.

I need to remind myself of that every once in a while because I just love being lazy and waste a lot of time. I'm very good at that.

Someone please ask me later if I folded the laundry and cleaned the living room a BIT, okay?
(Cleaning the whole living room is too big a task right now. Baby steps.)

Okay, off I go again to be good!

  • Positive thought for the day...

When you feel that nobody loves you,

    Nobody cares for you,

    And everyone is ignoring you,

    You should start asking yourself...

    Am I too sexy?

  • I'm procrastinating right now. There are 3 other things I need to do before I can go to bed tonight...

But instead, I'm going to tell you about the book I'm reading: In Silence - Growing Up Hearing in a Deaf World.

I found it at a thrift store the other day and was immediately intrigued. A memoir of a girl named Ruth who grew up with deaf parents. She actually didn't really learn to communicate vocally till she was about 5 when she started attending school. All she knew were the sounds that her parents uttered, most of the time incorrectly.

When she was a baby, her mom would tie one end of the ribbon on her own arm and the other end to Ruth's. A deaf person can't hear her baby cry, but she can sense the baby waving her arms around. Wow, can you imagine that? Here's another paragraph that caught my attention, Ruth talking about her mom:

She asked questions. She wanted to know. "How does the voice of my son Fred sound? Tell me, is his voice hard like hammer? You are girl, is your voice soft like fur? Explain to me. Lift up hands, move your fingers. Tell me. The radio is warm. Are words from voice warm? Now you must tell me. Where does noise sound go? Far away?"

How we take such things for granted. Our senses, like this one; to be able to hear. To not hear your alarm clock in the morning, not hear when someone calls out for you, not be able to use the phone, not know what music is...

I hear the keys clicking as I type. The whir of the computer. An airplane flying overhead.
    What do you hear now?

  • Hey all, today is Doughnut Day at Krispy Kreme. So go in for your free doughnut. Valid today and only at participating stores.

By the way, today is also "Hug Your Cat Day" as well as "National Leave The Office Early Day". I kid you not... see. They should really publicize the last one!!

little handsI got to see the twins last night. They are sooo cute! Still no names yet, but they don't look the same. I got to hold the big brother, even though he's actually smaller in size. I've never held such a tiny or new baby before, 5 lbs and a few ounces and a day old.

I was alone with the two of them for about a minute when Caven went to help Engel with something. I had big brother in one arm and trying to pat the little brother with my free hand as he was starting to cry again. Oh my gosh, how stressful. Okay, I imagine some tearful days ahead. But also... twice the joys, the smiles, the hugs and kisses. I can't wait till they grow big cheeks and rolls on their arms and legs!! Cute! Cute!
