  • Handshakes

I appreciate a good, firm handshake. None of that princess shake thing with just the tips of the finger or a touch and go with no pressure.

hand shakeToday our admin took me around the floor to meet everyone. Even though we work in the same building and exchange emails, it's funny how some of us have never actually met in person. It was a fun afternoon. So far everyone is super friendly.

Then she brought me to this woman so I streched out my arm to shake her hand. She kind of looked at it, hesitated, then stuck out her hand. But she didn't clasp my hand, instead her hand went over my hand... I don't remember how it really went... but it was very awkward. Then she said in an odd way, "I don't shake hands, I don't know how to tell people that without offending them." She's like Howie Mandel.

I felt pretty bad for sticking out my hand first. So afterwards, I'd wait for the other person to offer me their hand first. I don't like that... cuz what if they're waiting for me to stick out my hand first? And then we end up wondering if the other person's just not friendly.

  • i'm only just starting to realize that a lot of people dont actually shake when they shake hands.  it's more just a grip.  grip hands.  they really should just say grip hands if they dont intend on shaking it.  if they actually said anything.

  • judy, you did the right thing. you stuck out your hand confidently. it shows that you are sure of yourself. she's probably a shady person anyway. but i know what you mean! i hate those half-ass hand shakes. a firm hand shake (but not too firm) shows that you're interested in the person. a weak one shows that you don't give a crap, or you're flaky. not a good first impression.

  • I'm not good with hand shakes, I think I get sweaty palms sometimes and feel kinda conscious about it o_o; I um wave XD but nothing wrong with you sticking out your hand first ;P

  • that person's weird and needs to be taught how to act like a normal person

  • i see wimpy handshakes all the time! i like those firm ones where you shake shake shake, smile at each other, and nod.

  • I do not like limp handshakes nor lettuce.

  • i don't like fingertip handshakes either.  i appreciate a good strong handshake.

  • Yes. Real handshakes for real people.  You did the right thing to initiate.  This is western culture after all.  Nut-jobs that don't handshake are crazy, hypocondriacs, rude or just trying to get attention.  Don't let a weirdo put you down!  Then that evil person has actually won the game of controlling your mind and actions!

You know.  Even so, I like bowing.  I think that I wouldn't have a problem if we just bowed in our society like the old days.  Not the bending at the waist bows, but a good reveraunce.

  • that's kinda random....
