  • I heard on the news last month that this year the US would see a mass coming out of cicadas, waking up from their 17 year slumber. Insect news like this is so exciting. I wish I could see/hear it for myself, but here I am in California.

My brother (in Ohio) left me this message today:

"Hey Ting (that's my Chinese name), it's me. My goodness, I'm out here biking and there are cicadas everywhere! There are like cicada shells all over the place and cicadas coming out of the ground. There are ones that are white hanging off of the trees getting ready to dry off their wings. It's pretty cool. I thought you might be interested."

It's going to be one noisy month there.
Cicadas and fireflies are too cool for words. Ahh, I wish I was there!!

  • Oooo.  They're quite scary looking too.  I'll have to get used to that sound soon.  Eeeps!

I like the new look/colors!  Reminds me of some Japanese art.

  • Yikes!!  In the South the are usually all over the place...sometimes it's cool to just sit outside and listen but sometimes it's so loud that you can't sleep...   unique creatures nonetheless.

  • GROSS!  sorry, you know i am not an insect fan :(

  • i really love fireflies too!!  i saw them for the first time when i was in NY...my friend and i went on campus and caught them in jars.  i even brought them back to my dorm and studied them carefully.  what a californian i am!  i am so glad you like bugs too!  =D
