Our company had planned an earthquake awareness day for today a while back, what perfect timing with the quake yesterday. It happened while we were at work. You knew who was Californian and who wasn't by their reactions. I just sat at my desk, shifted my eyes around, and waited it out - hoping this wasn't the Big One. My boss did the right thing and took cover under a table. A contractor from India later asked her, "What were you doing?" Hahaha. My Parents live closer to the heart of the quake. My Mom said that they were fine. However, their bookshelves were about to topple over and my Dad goes over to hold them up. "Only the animals (figurines) on top of the bookshelves fell over."
Oh my goodness, what if it was the Big One? He better not do that next time!

I was hanging around the fan last night when I almost dropped my hair through the top of the fan. That would not be good.
It reminded me of when Amy and I were little. Our Mom had just stepped out to do something and we were the only two home (I think). She was hanging around the fan as well, probably making Indian noises or holding her hands up to the fan. I warned her not to stick her fingers into the fan. But she decided to protest against me!
She got her fingers all cut up, bloody and with cuts on various fingers. But instead of showing her concern, I said, "I told you not to stick your fingers in the fan!" And then I walked away from the wailing Amy. I was feeling bad that she got hurt, but I had to remain tough. I feel bad to this day.
Man, I was so mean!
I am nice now… most of the time. -
The other day S was telling me that where he went for Arizona Mission was high in elevation. Which reminded me of the high desert, which reminded me of Pastor Jim, which reminded me of my Grandpa.
I was digging through my stuff that night and chanced upon a rough draft of what I wrote for Grandpa's memorial booklet. That was 3 years ago. How interesting, I haven't seen this piece of paper since back then.
I miss him. These few days I miss him especially much, this man of faith, our quiet Grandpa. How he spoke truth into our lives. Encouraged us in our faith. Told random jokes. He didn't speak very much after his stroke, but when he did, what authority. His prayers especially, so full of conviction of God's faithfulness. This man who walked with God 90 some years.
I miss how he used to offer us snacks when we visited his room. He had so much! He'd say, "How can I not treat my guests?" He'd pull out one snack after another. He'd give us bags of snacks to try or he'd pour them out on his hand and hand it to us. Though some of them were stale, we'd eat them anyway and that'd make him happy. Grandma would talk to us and he'd sit there quietly watching us or laugh at our antics. Then he'd offer us more snacks… wanting us to stay longer.

On this random summer evening, I was singing this at the piano...
Word of God, speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see Your majesty
To be still and know
That You're in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God, speak
And it started to rain outside.
The COOOOLEST thing! God, You're so cool!
It felt like He was giving me a big wink.
If we seek, He will certainly show us. -
Hey everyone, this is a portrait of me! Yes, I look just like this! Kind of.
Those lines are my cheeks, not whiskers, ok?When we were in Taiwan, we stayed with my Mom's brother's family. They help take care of two girls (1st grade and Kindergarden) because their parents have jobs that don't allow them to be with their kids. (Why have kids then?!) The older one has been living with my Uncle/Aunt since she was 2 and the younger one has been living there since she was just 5 days old. They go home to see their parents only once in a while. Needless to say, there's a deeper bond with this family than their own. They even call my Aunt "Ma".
These two girls are so lovable. They're playful, thoughtful, and adorable. I was only there for a week or so, but I feel like I could totally love them like my own family. We drew pictures, put on a skit (I was the princess), played weird made-up games, toyed with the camera, watched TV, played Wii, ate snacks, did origami… I hope they grow to be lovely young ladies with a bright future and marry men who will love them like crazy.
This was drawn by Cherry. She'll be in 2nd grade come fall. I brought the picture home and is currently displayed on our fridge.

I think every company should have a resting room.
When you feel sick and you need to lie down.
When you're way too tired to be productive and need to take a quick nap.
Instead of going home sick for the rest of the day, or half working and half dying, employees can go there to rest a bit.
It should be dimly lit with some white noise. With beds and curtains for privacy.
Or even like a Japanese capsule you can crawl into... and then you can shut the door... so you don't hear the snorers.
And some sort of alarm to let you know it's time to get up and go back to work.
That's what I need right now. I think about this very often.
Or allow me to sleep under my desk, George Costanza style.
Today marks my 10 year anniversary with this company. I can't believe it's been a whole decade. So much has happened in 10 years. It went by so fast.
Will the next 10 go as fast?

S is installing a new kitchen counter at home today. When his Dad heard, he got all excited and said, "I can help!... I have tools!... I'll take a day off!..." He's built 2 homes from scratch before, he's the handiest man I personally know. But he's also in his 70s so we don't want him moving heavy stuff or doing hard work. We told him thanks but it's okay.
But what do you know, bright and early in the morning, *ding dong*. It's S's Dad, pumped and ready to work!
He also looked in our patio and saw wood beams to replace the current ones. "I can do this, too!"
I hope no one gets hurt. But I'm so touched that he's so excited and happy to help us.
I never thought I'd ever say this but "I can't wait to wash dishes again!"
