  • I think every company should have a resting room.

When you feel sick and you need to lie down.
When you're way too tired to be productive and need to take a quick nap.
Instead of going home sick for the rest of the day, or half working and half dying, employees can go there to rest a bit.

It should be dimly lit with some white noise. With beds and curtains for privacy.
Or even like a Japanese capsule you can crawl into... and then you can shut the door... so you don't hear the snorers.
And some sort of alarm to let you know it's time to get up and go back to work.

That's what I need right now. I think about this very often.
Or allow me to sleep under my desk, George Costanza style.

Today marks my 10 year anniversary with this company. I can't believe it's been a whole decade. So much has happened in 10 years. It went by so fast.

Will the next 10 go as fast?

  • wow..10 yrs seen like a very long time but it does goes by fast...i am going on 8yrs in a few days.  I really  do think comp should have resting place or a lounge for people to take quick nap or just to relax.  I usused to let my subordinate bring her sick kid to work when the school doesn't allow him to go to school with little cough.  the kid doesn't cause trouble he just sleep under the cubi desk or just do his homework so i didn't mind at all. I even let him play game on computer.  I have simpathy for single mom with kid and has to work.  HR put a stop to that soon as comp got bigger and fall in corp structure.

  • i think that's an awesome idea!  sometimes you don't need to go home and take a sick day.  you just need to take a breather and rest for a bit.  when i was pregnant, i'd inhale my lunch so that i could spend the remaining time in my car to rest and nap.
when i worked at nordstrom during college, there was a little "break" room next to the eating "break" room.  there was a single cot in there, you could lock it, and i took naps in there.
as you can tell, i'm a person that needs naps.  hehe
    10 years, congrats!  that's a long time!!!

  • At my last company...they had a room like this.  But after a while no one really wants to go into that room because if all the sick people were using the room, that room gets a bit nasty because you don't know what germs are in there.

I still think it's probably better to have a personal cot under your desk....hahahaha

  • that sounds good. a little privacy room to rest to get recharged. i think the rooms will be fully occupied very quickly. I worked at my previous company for 9 years before I quit. I thought I will quit at 10 years but then God has a better plan for me.

  • Unfortunately the next 10 years will go even faster than the last 10 years.  'sigh'

  • they have those at companies in asia! (nap rooms!)
makes so much sense. dunno why america is so dense! muahahhaa

10 years is a long time...

  • i needed a nap around 2pm today.  but no nap room in sight.

    10 years!  yahoo!

  • wow, 10 years!
i think i once saw it in the news where they had a "store" you can go to to take naps. I think you pay by the minute and just go there to rest.
it'll be nice if i can just sleep for 6 hours straight. uninterrupted.

  • i totally agree with you on the resting place.  wow, happy 10 years to you!!
