  • Hey everyone, this is a portrait of me! Yes, I look just like this! Kind of.
Those lines are my cheeks, not whiskers, ok?

judy by cherryWhen we were in Taiwan, we stayed with my Mom's brother's family. They help take care of two girls (1st grade and Kindergarden) because their parents have jobs that don't allow them to be with their kids. (Why have kids then?!) The older one has been living with my Uncle/Aunt since she was 2 and the younger one has been living there since she was just 5 days old. They go home to see their parents only once in a while. Needless to say, there's a deeper bond with this family than their own. They even call my Aunt "Ma".

These two girls are so lovable. They're playful, thoughtful, and adorable. I was only there for a week or so, but I feel like I could totally love them like my own family. We drew pictures, put on a skit (I was the princess), played weird made-up games, toyed with the camera, watched TV, played Wii, ate snacks, did origami… I hope they grow to be lovely young ladies with a bright future and marry men who will love them like crazy.

This was drawn by Cherry. She'll be in 2nd grade come fall. I brought the picture home and is currently displayed on our fridge.

  • what a great portrait!  now we can see what you look like.  sort of.
its sad that these kids see their parents so rarely.  it's nice to know that they are living happily and growing up well with Uncle and Aunt, though.

  • that's so sad about not being able to see their parents..   but very cute portrait!!

  • She did a great job drawing you. That is really sweet of her. I hope the parents realized that they are missing out on their children laughter each day. I know there are some parents who are like that. When they grew older, they expect their children to be near them and take care of them. But there is no strong bond. So why do people say blood is thicker than water?

  • that is sad that the parents are missing out on watching their girls grow up! it's one thing to put them in day care...but another thing to leave them with people who aren't even family! Your uncle and aunt must have really big hearts!

  • aww, so cute and so sad.  i hope your uncle and aunt are able to disciple them in Christ.  what a responsibility and a blessing.

  • Bummer that they don't really know their parents.  I agree with you...if you can't take care of them why have them in the first place.  It's almost selfish on the parent's end.  To think, they didn't stop at one is baffling to me because having two isn't any easier.

  • It is a good drawing. Portrait looks like you. It is indeed sad that some parents in TW are so focued on the career, they often give the job of raising the kids to their relatives or their parents. And when the kids grow up, the parents expect them to listen and obey. I don't understand that. I toally agree with you, if you can not be a responsible parents, don't become parents. Fortunetly, this two girls have a loving Uncle and Auntie.

  • i can tell what pants you were wearing with the drawing she drew.
i like how she added alphabet letters for you, the English speaking girl.  teehee.

ah-ghim and ah-ghu are so cool.  lucky girls.  i think they'll grow up just like our 3 guai cousins.

  • That bugs the crap out of me!  You're right, why do people bother having kids they don't want or have the time to raise?  Hopefully the girls will turn out okay in the future without too many issues.  Seems like your uncle and aunt are going a great job.
