When we were in Taiwan, our Aunt/Uncle took us to check out the AnPing Tree House.
So instead of a house built on a tree. It's a few trees that grew into/around/above a house. It was built between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of Japanese colonization to act as a warehouse for a salt company. When the place fell into disuse, the banyan trees took over! It's such an interesting place to walk around, tree roots reaching across floors, whiskery things hanging down from the ceiling, tree roots growing down walls, creating their own window/doors/ceilings… The place has been updated to provide beams to give more support to the house. Stairs were also added to allow guests to climb above the warehouse and take a look from higher up. What a sight to see… and the breeze was so nice up there.
You know I won't be planting one of these trees anywhere near my house.
Missing Taiwan... especially the food and the being-on-vacation.

i really like the picture with mama. with her beside it, the tree/house is so grand!
trees are just amazing.
That reminded of my grandparent's place out in Penghu Island. The house is so old and overgrown with trees. As if they took over the lot.
cool!
how cool! awww, i miss taiwan too. i'm going there with the baby next month so he can see his great grandparents for the first time.
