  • A Day In The Life of a Caterpillar-Sitter:

S: The leaves were practically gone this morning.
J: Really?! They are eating too fast now.
S: I looked at them and they said, "Feed us! We're hungry!"
J: Oh, they talked to you?
S: Yes. Be careful when you open the lid later, they're going to bite your hand.
J: They're going to go "RAWR!"

He's quite the imaginative one. He'll be a fun dad one day. A little crazy, but fun for sure.

luna 3rdinstarWe've been having interesting conversations about the 'pillars.

S: Why don't they eat the stems?
J: Why don't you eat the sidewalk that you walk on?
S: Huh, no, that's not the same.
J: Why don't you eat the bones on your steak?

The 'pillars are getting bigger and fatter. They eat and poop like crazy. If the lid is open, I can even hear them chewing. Is it just me, but everytime I see this picture I think, "Aw, sooo cute!" Look at him taking a nap, aww.

P.S. Jane, I got to wear jeans to work today! But no tennis shoes.

  • why are you raising pillars? the two kids i live with are raising two white fuzzy ones. so cute too. they laid eggs and eat alot. i heard there was a third one, weaker & smaller that got DEVOURED by ants and died once they arrived at our house. oooh ants !!!

  • i'm helping a friend take care of them since he's out of town. he is more the bug lover than i am. if no one could care of them, they would have been euthanized... that would have been sad.

  • this really intrigues me that people can raise caterpillars.  are there any pictures of the caterpillar village?    oh yeah, as for my story -- there were a lot of fuzzy caterpillars around the house in my neighborhood. and it was a really really hot summer so when the caterpillars tried to cross the driveway, they'd literally fried up cuz it was so hot!  so one day i took a stick and started poking at the dried up caterpillars and eventually separated all the segments so there were pieces of strewn caterpillar all across the driveway.

pretty mortifying, isn't it?  but to my defense, they were already dead!!    i still feel guilty.  i think i was around 5-6.

  • they are so gross though!!! when i babysat the girls once, i could hear the bugs munchin' away and the sound of their poop falling. it was really disturbing~!! haha

  • HAHA!! YAY JEANS!! i get a denim and tennis shoe day on monday. woo hoo!!

  • munch, munch

  • haha, "you don't eat the sidewalk you walk on" :)

    thanks again for 'pillar sitting!

i counted, there are 108. i am going to have a serious deforestation problem soon ... and I moved them into one of those big 64 qt plastic bins so they are less cramped ...
