  • Allen called Amy, he's on call tonight and was on his way to work, running into fireflies left and right. So much that his windshield was glowing. How very sad, those poor things. I love fireflies. (Glow worms are the larvae, remember Glow Worms?!)

firefliesWe were there around this time last year. I still remember Allen driving us around after his graduation party to catch fireflies in see-through plastic cups. We stopped at several locations, but finally found one that was blazing with fireflies. When we parked and walked in some more, I was mesmerized by what I saw. It was like being in a fantasy world, twinkling lights everywhere, surrounded by tall trees. I've never seen anything like that. I could have stayed there for many more hours, awed by everything around me.

Afterwards, we drove to a local White Castle in his little town for a snack. We gobbled up a lot of it on the way back, then released the fireflies from his porch. Oh, that was so fun. I wish we had fireflies here.

P.S. Did you know that there is such a thing as an official state insect? Yes, that's right. Cheers to insects! Check it out here.

P.S.S. Some dad saw me looking at the caterpillars at church on Sunday and he said, "Is this for your school project?" He thought I was in high school! Okay, I know I don't look THAT young. If so, then I should be Julia Gulia and go undercover.

  • aww..I love fireflies too!  I have pleasant memories of watching them when I lived in Ohio as a kid...    :)

  • Yeah, I saw those when I was in Illinois last summer!

  • i'm jealous!!  i wanna go visit allen right now!

  • Like Alinus, I also lived in Ohio as a kid (until I was 7). I remember running out in the fields and catching fireflies with my plastic containers. It's been over 23 years since I've last seen a firefly in person. I still remember how they felt like and smelled (kinda nasty, actually). I just know when/if I see them again, it'll be major nostalgia.

  • you bring ur caterpillars with you everywhere? hehehehe!

  • we said we'll start thinking about kids after 2 yrs...not ready to be parents yet!

  • babydot: no, i'm not that weird. i brought the caterpillars to church so i can hand them over to the person i was bug-sitting for. i'm glad they've been returned b/c they were eating like crazy and i didn't have enough space for them to walk around or pupate.

  • this entry reminds me of the ecard i sent yesterday. go to http://www.dayspring.com/ecards/allcat.asp?category=4 and check out the "You Shine" ecard :)

  • Julia Gulia is from "Wedding Singer".  I think you mean Josie Gellar from "Never Been Kissed".  I love that movie!  But seriously, you can still pull off looking like a high schooler!

  • thank you for the e-card! seriously, knowing you is such an honor... i'm so lucky to be able to learn from such an awesome woman that loves God and the people around her so much. oh, and it doesn't help that you're going to sing "words that you say". wait! don't sing it next week because i won't be there! just record it for me and then maybe i'll stop trying to bribe members of your team to just start playing it in hopes that you'll have to just sing along. haha!!

  • firefly in the sky... i can fly twice as high...
    oh wait.. wrong song
    fireflies! wee!
