  • hello waveDo you ever regret not smiling, waving, greeting someone?
I feel like I regret these more often than I should.

Have you ever been in an elevator with someone who you don’t even know but they just exude friendliness? I love that. A simple “Good Morning!” and a smile is a perfect way to start the day. Rather than the shuffle-into-the-elevator, don’t-make-eye-contact motions. It’s amazing how a few exchanges of words or a (non-creepy) smile can leave you in a good mood.

Today I walked pass someone in the hall and I smiled at him.
He saw me smile but he was wearing a stone cold look.
Okay, fine, I take back my smile!

Then later that day, the same person walked pass my cubicle and waved at me with a big smile.
I think he regretted his non-smile this morning so he came back to make up for it.
His smile made my day. We don’t know each other.
And no, he’s not hot or young.

  • i agree! too many people nowadays (especially guys) try to put on that too cool for school face…

    jus smile and nod :)

  • your last sentence made me crack up.
i had a math teacher back in junior high that was always just so friendly and encouraging.  he taught me about unconditional friendliness and a positive attitude.

  • hey! i’ve been trying to be more friendly lately.. i usually put my hand up. no, not wave but just a small sign of acknowledgment. yay for making the world a better place!

  • good morning, juiru!

  • @SarahakaHungry -  good morning! well, it’s noon now for you. hi!!

  • hahah that’s a cute story.  when i was on surgery, i would try to take a nap on the elevator standing up as i went from ground floor to 9th floor. once someon caught me and laughed at me, not in a mean way, but then i got all sheepish after that. =)

  • I’ve always wondered if it was weird to try to make small talk in elevators… and I’ve discovered that it’s really hit or miss.  But the good conversations really make my day!

  • i like the picture you posted.  it’s happy :)

i don’t like it when people keep walking past you while they say, “good. and you?”  i stop, but have to turn around to tell them, “fine, thanks.”  but sadly, i’m talking to their backs as they continue walking away.
sometimes i get caught off guard.  when i’m in my own world… i think i look pretty mean.  and when someone smiles at me, i need to give a smile that doesn’t look fake! and doesn’t last for just a millisecond.

  • @fiveup - i’m guilty of the millisecond smiles and sometimes saying “good” even though they don’t even ask how i’m doing. so used to that being part of a passing greeting. i also have to remember to smile with my eyes.

  • When somebody walks up to me at work, I fear the worst. Which is usually well-founded.
